Original V8 brake master cylinder
After 37 years my brake master cylinder has started to leak tonight, two days before its MOT. Can anyone please tell if the single line, square can type is the same as that fitted to the MGB of the same era before the tandem became standard or is the V8 cylinder a special? I want to keep the can type so would consider resealing it, if that is an option. Thanks in advance.

The only replacments avaliable now suitable for the V8 are the plastic resevoir type unless you can persuede on of the serial hoarders to part with a NOS M/C for a small fortune. Fit a plastic one for now to get you back on the road and have the original re-sleeved. I don't have much faith in using a new seal kit alone. I've never had much success in the past taking this route.

Hi, Beers of Houghton, Cambs supply the original Lucas components on 01480 462034. I bought the brake master cylinder from him 2 yrs ago well pleased!! He's got everything! Pricey, but it's nice to know that he's got it. Apparently as each marque of M.G came to an end he would send his lorries to Abingdon with a load of money and buy all the remaining stock, hence why he's got all the original parts. Regards,

New set of seals have done the trick and managed to retain the original can type cylinder so well pleased . Now on the lookout for a spare to put into stock incase I need it in another 37 years .
Thanks to those who replied . Cheers.

Good stuff, Iain.
Do keep a watchful eye over the level of fluid over the next couple of weeks. As I mentioned previously, I've never had much joy for long with only a seal kit.
