A 7 day trip to Scotland!
We have just returned from 7 days in Scotland, which was lovely, even though we negotiated the odd flood and it rained most days. I was glad we had the Jaguar because of these conditions and the fact that we wanted to shop at Sainsbury's stocking up for a few months on essentials such as lamb, bacon, sausages, Cheddar cheese and scones, crumpets etc., etc.!!
Scotland is lovely, and we stayed at castle hotels in Kelso (The Roxburghe Hotel), Elgin (The Mansion House Hotel), Invergarry on Loch Ness (The Glenngary Hotel) and finally in Chester-le-Street (The Lumley Castle Hotel). We ate far too well and so a strict diet is now required. We toured around a little as time was rather limited because we visited 3 woollen mills in Hawick and Elgin. It is really amazing how pullovers are knitted today. The Japanese machines are capable, via computers, to knit a pullover in one piece (like a cylinder). The older machines knit in 4 segments which are then seamed together.
We saw several MGBs in the Loch Ness area and even parked next to an open one in Hull at a petrol station where the very nice female passenger asssisted us in directing the Jaguar to the next Sainbury's.
The overnight P&O ferry from Hull to Rotterdam is another way of getting to the Continent. The cabins are well appointed and the facilities very comprehensive catering for all tastes.
