Missing 'R'
Somewhere between home and our trip to the European Event of the Year in Ronnenby, Sweden I have lost an R so one side of the car is 'O V E R'. Can anyone help? Once again we had a great time at the well organised event run by the MGCC Sweden and look forward to the EEOTY in Aviemore, Scotland next year.

Sorry John, my reply was somewhat flippant. I assume you are looking for a replacement ‘R’ and this might be the same badge: http://www.mymgcar.com/shop/product.php?productid=16350&cat=267&page=5 or try eBay; there appears to be several sellers of ROVER badges but if I were you I’d remove the ‘OVER’ from one side and ‘ROVER’ from the other and you could make a RV8 badge with a suitable 8 (from a Rover 800).

When I had an RV8 I was only too pleased to remove the ROVER badges which were only ever put on Japanese market cars because some Japanese law demanded the maker's name on the car and the Japanese did not recognise MG as a manufacturer. I regarded this as an affront to MG!

What I did was to remove the letters via a hair dryer which allows one to remove them slowly leaving no adhesive residue. I had to polish out the shadows from the letters themselves. I replaced them with a "V8" nameplate. I'm not sure where I got them actually, but I think it was B&G. There was a workshop note I did on this as far as I can remember.

Well done Chris Hunt Cooke, I could not agree more, who in their right mind would want a 'Rover' badge on the side of their car. We certainly fooled the Japs again, ..... at the time they probably had not heard of MG and because of the Rover badge bought the product [75% approx.]. Lets hope they did not buy any of the other 'wonderful models' !!! All the best to all, great forum, well done Victor and all in his wake, best regards.

If you pop into the detailed Index of the RV8NOTES series (which is a free download) via the rollover button on the LHS of the V8 website homepage, you will see on page 5 under "16. BODY" RV8NOTE183 and RV8NOTE236 cover the removal of badges. Those notes will be on the RV8NOTES CD.
